FAQ
Installation
Can I install GPS Tuner to my Storage Card instead of Main Memory?
Yes, you can do that.
I can not install GPS Tuner. On every attempt I get the following error: "Could not find .NET Compact Framework. Please install again."
You should install the latest .NET Compact Framework to your Pocket PC. You can download it from (for free) Microsoft's site.
I have successfully installed GPS Tuner, but I can not start it. When I tap its icon nothing has happened.
Please install the latest .NET Compact Framework to your Pocket PC. You should also try to set as much memory free as you can. You can try to use the English(United States) Regional Setting instead of your own selected one. If all the above fail, a hard reset may solve the problem (be careful, all your data will be lost after a hard reset!).
I can not start GPS Tuner. All of my tries have failed.
Please place a debug.ini file into GPS Tuner's folder. This case GPS Tuner will start in Debug mode and will create a debug.log file when error comes. Please send this debug.log to us (info@gpstuner.com), it may help to solve the problem.
GPS Settings
After I have started GPS Tuner I can not got signal from my GPS Receiver. Why?
At the first use you have to define the COM port and Baud Rate for the correct communication between GPS Receiver and your PDA. You can reach all the functions for GPS Receiver in GPS Settings panel.
I have P3300 PDA (with integrated GPS). When I launch GPS Tuner, I am asked to automatically configure GPS Settings. After a few seconds the screen freeze and I have to soft reset my Pcket PC
Seems that the .NET Compact Framework's serial port reader is not fully compatible with P3300 device. There is a workaround for this problem. Please download the free JAL Port Splitter application and install it to your PDA. Before starting GPS Tuner, please start Port Splitter and set your input GPS port (write manually COM4 into the box) and an output virtual port (for example COM5). Then start GPS Tuner and set your GPS port same as Port Splitter's virual port.
I do not know my COM port and Baud Rate settings.
In this case select 'Auto' Setup option from Port box, and GPS Tuner will try to find your GPS Receiver and set the Port/Baud Rate automatically.
My GPS Settings are OK, but when I tap the Start button nothing has happened. My TomTom software works well. Where is the problem?
Other users reported that the TomTom software has locked their port (and GPS) so other applications could not work. TomTom's GPS driver constantly holds open a connection to the Bluetooth stack on the Pocket PC which results in a failure with any other application wanting to talk to a Bluetooth GPS.
1.) Try to download the latest GPS Driver from TOMTOM or
2.) Uninstall the GPS Driver manually
a.) Go into START | SETTINGS | REMOVE PROGRAMS
b.) You should see a program called "TomTom ~ GPS" (without quotes)
c.) Tap REMOVE and answer YES
d.) The new TomTom Wizard will appear asking you to reset the Pocket PC
Now you will have a fixed connection and you will be able to use other applications again with your Bluetooth GPS Receiver and not be confined to just TomTom Navigator 2.
Using GPS Tuner
When I try to load a JPG file as map, GPS Tuner says: Invalid map
It is possible that your JPG file has special encoding. In this case we suggest you to convert JPG file (save it again) with the help of desktop Map Calibrator program.
It seems that GPS Tuner reports wrong distance.
It is possible that the altitude of selected targetpoint is different from your altitude. Please try to uncheck the 3D Distance Calculation option (this case GPS Tuner will calculate distances in 2D only).
When I try to wake up my PDA (while GPS Tuner is running), GPS Tuner quits and I have to restart it again. I have installed GPS Tuner onto my SD card.
It is possible that the your PDA can not initialize SD card correctly. It is depending on PDA and SD card combination. Please try to use another SD card in your PDA.
How can I try if GPS Share function works well on my system in DEMO mode?
If you start GPS Share in DEMO mode and you have active internet connection on your PDA, GPS Tuner will send your position to the GPS Share Server, generate a "Phantom Partner" and send it back to you. Phantom Partner will be displayed near to you on the map (if Partners layer is enabled). You can also check if Phantom Partner "has arrived" by selecting Partner category from Manager list.
I would like to use special characters in my geocaching file. What should I do?
You are able to use special characters in your geocaching LOC or GPX file, but your file must be in UTF-8 format before use in GPS Tuner. You can do the conversion by opening file in WordPad. Simply select File/Save as... option than select UTF-8 encoding type from the combobox and save it.
