Slipknot (ang. petlica (element stryczka)) amerykanska grupa muzyczna grajaca metal alternatywny, w tworczosci ktorej da sie zauwazyc wplywy takich gatunkow jak heavy, nu czy death metal. Zespol powstal w 1995 w Des Moines w stanie Iowa w wyniku wspolpracy perkusistow Shawna Crahana i Andersa Colsefniego. Cecha charakterystyczna grupy jest liczny dziewiecioosobowy sklad, w nietypowy sposob prezentujacy swe kompozycje podczas koncertow. Ponadto muzycy wystepuja w zaslaniajacych twarze maskach oraz kombinezonach.

Grupa na przestrzeni lat zyskala uznanie m.in. dzieki kontraktowi plytowemu z Roadrunner Records oraz otrzymala liczne nagrody i wyroznienia m.in. nominacje do nagrody Grammy w kategoriach "Best Heavy Metal Performance" i "Best Hard Rock Performance". W 2006 roku grupa otrzymala nagrode Grammy w kategorii "Best Metal Performance" za utwor pt. Before I Forget, a w 2008 roku Slipknot dostal nagrode Kerrang! Icon. Natomiast trzy z czterech oficjalnie wydanych albumow uzyskaly status plyty platynowej.
